Acquireing ISO Certification

Seeking Further Quality Improvements through Acquiring ISO 9001 Certification Group-Wide

ISO 9001 is an international standard certifying that an organization has established a Quality Management System (QMS) and implemented it appropriately. All business departments and major subsidiaries have acquired certification from third-party control bodies under ISO 9001 and are striving to maintain and improve quality levels. Furthermore, efforts are underway to improve the level of awareness among all Nikon employees and the entire Nikon Group through training and development of internal auditors.

Internal Auditor Development Training

To improve the level of satisfaction of customers and society in our quality and services, all business departments and major subsidiaries have acquired ISO 9001 certification and carry out their business operations in accordance with the Quality Control Manual.

Under ISO 9001, semiannual internal audits and annual external audits are conducted, with guidance provided as needed and continual improvements made to the management system. If better methods are available, they are reflected in manuals and adopted group-wide.

Group-Wide Integration of ISO 14001 Certification Acquired

Nikon and each member company of the Nikon Group has acquired certification from a third-party control body under ISO 14001, an international standard for management of the environmental impact of business activities in a wide range of aspects. Currently, the group is working to integrate this certification group-wide. Integrated certification already is completely acquired for facilities including Nikon headquarters and all manufacturing subsidiaries (Ohi, Yokohama, Sagamihara, Kumagaya, and Mito) and all major production subsidiaries both in Japan and overseas and some sales subsidiaries, and further progress is being made toward integrated certification group-wide.
To be an organization that brings to market "products that are user-friendly and environmentally-safe," based on a unified group-wide Environmental Management System (EMS) the Nikon Group is implementing environmental considerations such as conservation of energy and resources and elimination of harmful substances included in product and in all processes from product design through disposal of wastes.

In addition, in order to achieve higher levels of quality and of environmental conservation, the Nikon Group provides proactive support from qualified inspectors to help partner companies acquire ISO certification and to help other businesses in its communities develop their own internal auditors.
