Our Philosophy

Today, the world is undergoing substantial changes in the environment; global warming is causing abnormal weather and a rise in sea level, and various developments are leading to deforestation and desertification. Substances that affect the environment, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), chlorofluorocarbon (CFC), and dioxin, are spreading and accumulating in our ecosystems, and they are threatening the survival of life on our planet.

At Nikon, we believe that continued existence of corporation cannot be achieved without efforts for the environmental preservation. Our activities are therefore carried out with careful consideration to environmental preservation.

Since enacting the Nikon Basic Environmental Management Policy in 1992, environmental conservation has been and will continue to be one of the top priorities at Nikon. In accordance with this policy, we have emphasized "cyclability" and "symbiosis" as foundations of our various activities.

Nikon is actively promoting activities for the environmental preservation based on the concepts of "cyclability" and "symbiosis."

Based on a firm understanding of its own share of the burden on the environment, Nikon is developing eco-management measures.

Nikon has established and is operating an environment management system based on its "The Nikon Basic Environmental Management Policy."

Nikon has obtained ISO certification in the areas of environment and quality management.

Nikon has introduced a full-scale environmental accounting system to enable accurate understanding of the costs and effects of environmental conservation.

Nikon has established "The Nikon Environmental Action Plan" as a guideline for its environmental activities.
