Nikon packs more zoom than ever in a point-and-shoot camera: Nuvis 160i Advanced Photo System (IX240) camera

Dec. 1997

Nuvis 160i

The Nikon Nuvis family of cameras will soon welcome a new member: the top-of-the-line Nuvis 160i.

The Nuvis 160i packs maximal zoom range power into a minimal compact size. Not only is the camera's 4.2x zoom magnification highest among Advanced Photo System compacts; this model is also the world"s smallest in its class (as of 1997-12-01).

Sliding open the protective lens cover turns on power, demonstrating how functional sleek design can be.
A Nikon 30-125mm (37.5-156mm converted to 35mm [135] format)zoom lens extends to capture clear shots spanning the spectrum of magnification from wide-angle to telephoto.
The camera is designed for secure gripping at all times.
Metal front, protective lens cover, and lens barrel enhance the strength and style of the Nuvis 160i.

This Advanced Photo System (IX240) system compact camera, which will be available only in "i" configuration, offers many IX240 system advantages including drop-in film loading; choice of three (3) print types; index print that conveniently shows all photos from a developed roll on a single sheet; and PQI (Print Quality Improvement), a feature unique to this camera's magnetic data recording system. The Nikon Nuvis 160i also offers the Mid-Roll Change feature that lets photograpers switch film rolls whenever they want, for additional Advanced Photo System convenience.
Also, the camera has a data/title imprint feature that offers photographers a choice among 31 titles in any one of 12 available languages.

Other features include a versatile flash, close-up capability, Infinity Focus, bulb function and a bright viewfinder with dioptre adjustment for customised viewing.
For easy handling in the dark, major buttons are fluorescent, safe, and environment-friendly and the LCD is backlit.
An optional remote controller is also available.

Features

Nikon Benefits
  1. 4.2X Zoom in a Stylish Design
The protective lens cover slides open to reveal a sharp Nikon zoom lens with 30-125mm range for versatile picture taking from wideangle to telephoto.
This powerful zoom lens is integrated into the camera's sleek, stylish body.
  2. Versatile Flash
Auto Flash clearly illuminates colour and detail in most situations. Red-Eye Reduction ensures more natural-looking eyes in portraits. Anytime Flash throws light on foreground details of backlit subjects.
Flash Cancel is ideal for capturing the natural, subtle effect of available lighting, or for situations where flash photography is not permitted.
Slow Sync renders both the foreground subject and background in beautiful illumination.
  3. Close-up Capability and Infinity Focus
Autofocus lets the photographer shoot as close as about 70cm (2.3ft.) to the subject for intimate, richly detailed shots, or as far away as infinity for landscape scenes or cityscapes.
  4. Long Time Exposure
There's also the bulb function which keeps the shutter open for up to 10 minutes while the user presses the shutter button.
This is great for shooting impressive nighttime scenes like fireworks or cityscapes.
  5. Automatic operation
The Nuvis 160i is easy to operate, making picture-taking a joy.
From focusing to exposure, the camera does it all.
There's also a focus lock function that lets the photographer reframe the shot while ensuring that the subject stays in sharp focus.
  6. Fluorescent Operation Buttons
Shooting in the dark is easy with the Nuvis 160i, thanks to a backlit LCD panel and key operation buttons that glow in the dark.
After exposure to sunlight or other direct light, the buttons will remain fluorescent for several hours.
  7. Easy-to-use Viewfinder
The real-image viewfinder offers a bright, clear view of every subject. Dioptre adjustment allows photographers with less-than-perfect vision to get a sharply focused view through the viewfinder every time.
  8. Remote Control and Self-timer
The optional remote controller can be used to activate the shutter from about 5m (16ft.) away.
The self-timer lets the photographer get into the picture after setting up the shot.
Advanced Photo System Benefits
  1. Easy Film Loadingr
The photographer simply drops the film cartridge into the camera, without having to worry about touching the film.
The camera locks the film cartridge securely, so there's no danger of accidentally opening the camera and spoiling the pictures.
  2. Three Print Types
The photographer can select from three (3) print types: the popular classic (C) type, wide-vision (H), and panorama (P).
Mixing print types on the same roll adds to the fun.
  3. Index Print
Processed film is returned in its original cartridge, along with an index print showing small pictures of the shots taken, for easy reference.
The index print has the same ID code number as the film cartridge to simplify systematic filing.
  4. Better Picture Quality
Information about each picture is automatically recorded in the film's magnetic data recording track; this helps photofinishers reproduce pictures of superior quality.
  5. Mid-Roll Change
Film types can be switched at any time, even in mid-roll.
This convenience makes it possible, for example, to shoot outdoor scenes with ISO200 film, then change to ISO400 film for indoor shooting, and reload the partially exposed ISO200 film cartridge to resume outdoor shooting.
  6. Data and Title Imprint
The Nikon Nuvis 160i can record the date and time when the picture is taken, and imprint it on the front and back of every print.
Titles like "Wedding" and "Holiday" can also be imprinted at the back of prints from the camera's databank of 31 titles in 12 languages.
