TOKYO - Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX 5000 Digital Camera, on September 18, 2001.
A compact, lightweight digital still camera with 5.0 effective megapixels, the COOLPIX 5000 was developed as the "flagship" model of the COOLPIX lineup. It is a top-of-the-line model in the Nikon COOLPIX series, which features superior image quality and ease-of-use.
The camera's core users reach to advanced amateurs, digital enthusiasts, and semi-professional photographers who prefer the best compact digital still camera out in the current market, and cannot compromise other than the highest digital image quality. It is also used for enthusiastic photographers who enjoy the features of film cameras, as well as make use of the variety of accessories to broaden the shooting potential.
Nikon's newly developed 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens, with its 7.1-21.4mm (equivalent to 28-85mm in 35mm [135] camera format) focal range, delivers exceptional optical performance with three aspherical lens elements, and together with the 5.0 effective megapixels, ensures images of remarkable color, contrast and clarity.
The compact and lightweight, body is made of magnesium alloy, which offers unparalleled portability and an ergonomic, easy-grip design for easy operation.
AUTO mode and 3 custom settings allows the photographer to choose an easy way of shooting good pictures, or to choose different settings manually, just the way the photographer likes it to be.
"Film camera" features, such as 5-area multi autofocus and various exposure metering settings are some of the features that will certainly satisfy the conventional film camera users.
Features like the new Clear Image Mode, Noise Reduction Mode, Saturation Control and White Balance Bracketing aid in improving and the quality of digital images. Multiple capture modes can be selected, including movies with audio. It also has a built-in speaker, therefore an instant confirmation playback of movies is possible.
The new Vari-angle LCD monitor gives total convenience in every shooting position. This digital camera also has an accessory shoe to connect to an external Speedlight.
The COOLPIX 5000 comes with essential accessories -- including an all-new optional "19mm" wideangle converter lens, that extends the photographer's creative potential, and the new optional battery pack that uses six 1.5V LR6 (AA-size alkaline), 1.5V Lithium, 1.2V NiMH, or 1.2V NiCd batteries for easier vertical shooting position. Other accessories include rechargeable battery and charger*, CompactFlash Card, USB cable and software. With a lens adapter, it can accept various converters, such as Wideangle, Telephoto and Fisheye. And an optional LCD hood increases LCD monitor visibility when shooting in daylight. With so many more features and accessories, the COOLPIX 5000 is surely to become something truly special in digital photography.
*Depending on the country or area, the battery and charger may not be included, but will be available as an option.
Note: Specifications, design, product name and standard accessories may differ by country or area.
5.0 effective megapixels can capture razor-sharp pictures at a recording image size of up to 2,560 x 1,920 pixels. Nikon makes this new image-sensing CCD even more powerful using the latest image-processing technology, for crisp, brilliant images that can print as large as A3 size (297 x 420mm) or 11 x 14 in.
This new camera incorporates bright Nikkor lens with three aspherical lens elements. The light penetrates through a large-diameter aspherical lens that pares image distortion to an absolute minimum. The resulting 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens is the embodiment of Nikon optical performance, offering a focal range of 7.1-21.4mm (equivalent to 28-85mm in 35mm [135] format).
The COOLPIX 5000 is surprisingly fast: instant startup, high-speed autofocus, rapid zoom, and a shutter release that conveys the easy confidence of an AF SLR film camera.
The shutter release time lag has been reduced to a speed as fast as any other AF SLR cameras.
The versatile exposure and image controls, such as white balance setting, an all-new Clear Image mode, Noise Reduction mode, numerous auto and manual focus functions, and other features is sure to enhance the photographer's potential and enthusiasm.
Lighting needs are handled with a built-in Speedlight and an accessory shoe for an external Nikon Speedlight. Movies with audio can also be captured to enjoy the subject both in motion and in still.
