TOKYO - Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX 3700, a new digital camera that offers advanced functions and exceptional versatility in a lightweight, pocket-size design.
The COOLPIX 3700 continues the tradition of image quality, operating ease, and portability that distinguishes Nikon's COOLPIX series. With its precision 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens and 3.2 megapixels of resolution, the camera delivers superior optical performance and photo-quality (2,048 x 1,536-pixel) images. Nikon's new, advanced image-processing algorithm ensures faithful color reproduction, sharp contrast, and consistent clarity in virtually all shooting conditions. Image quality is further enhanced thanks to the high-precision 256-segment Matrix exposure metering and Auto White Balance (AWB) with TTL control.
As with all cameras in the COOLPIX series, the 3700 aims to simplify and streamline operations for the amateur photographer, while at the same time increasing versatility and picture-taking fun. The COOLPIX 3700 is equipped with 15 Scene Modes, including Portrait, Party/Indoor, Sunset, Museum, Fireworks Show and Panorama Assist, which instantly automate image composition for a wide range of activities, backgrounds and lighting conditions. Users can also enjoy continuous shooting, as well as shooting successive images at timed intervals to capture rapidly changing conditions in a time-lapse effect. The handy Macro Function moreover allows for sharply focused shots of subjects from as close as 4cm (1.6 in.), while the Multi-area Focus offers a selection of five focus areas. Reaching beyond still pictures, the COOLPIX 3700 additionally features eight movie modes, including one for filming TV-resolution (640 x 480 pixels) movies at 30 fps, complete with sound.
Even with all these functions, the controls on the COOLPIX 3700 have been kept to a minimum and are logically arranged for easy, speedy handling. The camera also powers up instantly and features quick, satisfying shutter response.
Designed for today's mobile lifestyle, the slim, compact COOLPIX 3700 weighs just 130g (4.6 oz.) without a battery and SD memory card, and slides comfortably into the average shirt pocket. The simple, functional form of the sturdy aluminum body is accented by sharp, chic lines and highlighted by plated parts.

3x optical zoom: The 3x optical Zoom-Nikkor lens (f/2.8 - 4.9) offers a focal range of 5.4 - 16.2mm (equivalent to 35mm - 105 mm in 35 mm [135] format).
3.2 effective megapixels: The 1/2.7-in. CCD achieves 3.2 effective megapixels, enabling photo-quality prints.
Improved image-processing: Nikon's new image processing engine uses improved algorithms to ensure vivid color, contrast and clarity.
15 Scene Modes: Users can enjoy new flexibility with 15 Scene Modes: Portrait, Party/Indoor, Night portrait, Beach/Snow, Landscape, Sunset, Museum, Fireworks show, Close up, Copy, Back light, Panorama assist, Sports, Dusk/Dawn, and Night landscape. Just select the mode appropriate to the subject and the COOLPIX 3700 ensures the optimum exposure for the composition.
Continuous Shooting: Enjoy continuous shooting at 2.5 (H) or 1.5 (L) frames per second, or the new Multi-shot mode for capturing 16 consecutive frames in a single image.
Macro Function: In Macro Mode, the COOLPIX 3700 delivers sharply focused images of subjects from as close as 4cm (1.6 in.).
TV Movie Mode: The COOLPIX 3700 offers eight Movie Modes, including a new TV Movie Mode that, thanks to new streaming technology, enables the production of true TV-size (640 x 480-pixel) movies at 30 fps, complete with sound recording and playback.
