How to improve your digiscoping skills

Before you start taking pictures Taking a picture Improving your technique Quick photographic tips

Improving your technique

Once you get more used to taking photos with a Fieldscope, in addition to taking photographs to serve as a record, why not take up the challenge of producing images that can be called "works of art" ? To do that, it is important to take into consideration the lighting conditions, the composition and background. Of course, it is also important that you take photos often to gain more experience.

Lighting conditions

Generally speaking, photographing under normal lighting conditions is advantageous.
If you want to emphasize the silhouette of the subject to make a special photo, backlighting may be favorable.

Composition

For a more open, natural composition, it may be better to leave some space in the direction the subject is facing when taking pictures of wild birds and animals. At these times, if you utilize the camera's focus lock to fix the focus on the subject's eyes, the resulting picture will be even better.

Background

You should try to choose a background that is darker than the subject. By doing this when using a digital camera, the color and tone of the subject tend to turn out for the better.
Photo A: Because the background to the subject is a deep green forest, the subject stands out nicely.
Photo B: The background is bright sky, so the subject is dark and murky.
Be sure to take your photos after making a proper choice for the background.
