Nikon CSR REPORT 2008

Nikon has been participating in the "Global Compact" advanced by the United Nations since July 2007.

Proposed in 1999 by the former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, the "Global Compact" was inaugurated formally at United Nations Headquarters in New York the following year. This program calls on participating companies and organizations from around the world to support and implement on their own initiative ten fundamental principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption.

The Notable COP program requires participants to submit Communications on Progress (COP) that describes practical actions taken in implementing the ten principles, and the Nikon CSR REPORT 2008 was recognized as Notable COP.

The UN Global Compact Office evaluates COPs submitted by participating companies and organizations based on their criteria, and outstanding Communications on Progress among them are recognized as Notable COP.

Nikon respects the spirit of the ten principles of the Global Compact and implements its CSR activities with sincerity as it works to establish highly transparent business operations.
