Supporting Ophthalmic Assistant Training Programs

Nikon India Private Limited provided support to an ophthalmic assistant training program at a leading eye care institution in India. The program aims to address the shortage of ophthalmology specialists capable of making initial diagnoses, as well as to encourage the empowerment of women. Training young women, often marginalized in their communities, in basic ophthalmology skills and assigning them to various locations helps the country battle blindness due cataracts and other treatable diseases that are still common in India. In fiscal year 2024, the program provided support in training 51 ophthalmic assistants.
