Contributing to Future Generations
Scholarships for Students at National Colleges of Technology
Nikon established a scholarship program for students at national colleges of technology in collaboration with the National Institute of Technology (KOSEN) in fiscal year 2022. In fiscal year 2025, we awarded scholarships to 40 third-year recipients, bringing the total number of scholarship recipients over the past three years to 120.
The scholarship program supports students at colleges of technology—higher education institutions that develop practical and innovative engineers. Through this program, we hope to encourage more of the younger generations to help build a society where humans and machines co-create, as envisioned in the Nikon Group Vision 2030. We also aim to contribute to the development of science and engineering talent that will support the future industrial foundation in Japan.
Scholarship Programs in Thailand
Nikon and Nikon (Thailand) Co., Ltd. provide scholarships through Shanti Volunteer Association, an international development NGO, and the Sikkha Asia Foundation in Thailand. In fiscal year 2025, we awarded scholarships to 120 junior and senior high school students and 20 university students, bringing the total number of scholarship recipients over the past 19 years to 3,197.
Scholarship Program in Laos
Nikon, Nikon (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Nikon Lao Co., Ltd. provide scholarships each year to 100 junior high school students through the Education for Development Foundation (EDF) Japan Minsai Center, an international education NGO. The center has supported a total of 1,200 students over 12 years. Rather than providing cash, the center distributes the scholarships in the form of school uniforms, school supplies, and other items students need to attend school.
Nikon–JICA Scholarship
Nikon and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have jointly operated the Nikon–JICA Scholarship program at Savannakhet University since 2014. Nikon awards scholarships to 40 students each year and has supported a total of 480 students to date. The program expanded the scope of support in 2018 to help develop industrial talent that will strengthen ties between Laos and Japan. The program now gives priority to students in the Japanese language department for scholarships and supports the employment of teaching assistants to address the department's shortage of teaching staff.
FeaturedSupport for the WFP School Feeding Programme
The Nikon Group in Japan collaborates with the United Nations World Food Programme (UN WFP) to support the organization's School Feeding Programme, which helps improve the health of children in developing countries and encourages school attendance. We also began an internal campaign in fiscal year 2017 through which we make donations to match the number of actions our employees take to support the WFP. Nikon donated ¥1,266,315 to the Japan Association for the World Food Programme, a certified nonprofit organization, through this campaign and other initiatives in fiscal year 2025. This donation will provide an estimated 42,211 school meals, enough to support one year of school attendance for 169 children.
The Nikon Group in Japan has also participated in the WFP Walk the World charity event, organized by the Japan Association for the World Food Programme, every year since fiscal year 2013.
