Nikon releases the NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7, a standard micro lens that lets users get close to their subjects for dynamic shots

TOKYO - Nikon Corporation (Nikon) is pleased to announce the release of the NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7, a standard micro lens for APS-C size/DX-format mirrorless cameras.

The NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7 is a fast, lightweight standard micro lens, and the first APS-C size/DX-format NIKKOR Z lens to achieve a maximum reproduction ratio equivalent to life-size*1. The large bokeh characteristic of a fast f/1.7 prime lens enables the capture of even familiar subjects, such as accessories and pets, in impressive detail. The short minimum focus distance of 0.16 m also allows users to get right up to their subject, making it possible to capture even small objects at a large size, all in beautiful, sharp detail. The convenient 35 mm*2 focal length, with a standard angle of view similar to that of the human eye, makes it easy to enjoy shooting a wide range of scenes, from tabletop photos to portraits and snapshots, and capturing the finest details in flowers and plants. Lightweight and convenient for everyday use, this standard micro lens is comfortable to carry while traveling, allowing users to easily explore a variety of imaging possibilities and providing a new shooting experience for those looking to further expand their creativity. This lens adds to the lineup of Nikon Z series lenses available to users of APS-C size/DX-format mirrorless cameras.

Nikon will continue to pursue a new dimension in optical performance while meeting users' needs, contributing to the development of imaging culture, with the hope of expanding possibilities for imaging expression.

Primary features

  • A maximum reproduction ratio of 0.67x, which is life-size equivalent in FX/35mm [135] format, enables the capture of small subjects at a larger size.
  • The fast f/1.7 maximum aperture allows users to make the most of large bokeh and minimize noise in low-light conditions.
  • Users can get as close as approximately 7 cm*1 to their subjects, thanks to 0.16 m minimum focus distance, to reveal the details of things with sharp rendering.
  • Adoption of an aspherical ED glass element effectively minimizes chromatic aberration.
  • An internal focusing (IF) system eliminates any change in the total length of the lens.
  • A lightweight design makes it easy to carry inside a bag while mounted on a camera.
  • Adoption of a stepping motor (STM) realizes quiet autofocusing.
  • Optimized for video recording with a design that suppresses focus breathing*2.
  • Functions such as focus mode (M/A), aperture, exposure compensation, or ISO sensitivity can be assigned to the built-in control ring for a smooth operational feel.
  • Designed with consideration of dust- and drip-resistance*3.
  • *1Working distance: The distance from the end of the lens to the subject. Without the lens hood.
