Nikon Corporation enters into manufacturing agreement with US Velodyne Lidar, Inc.

TOKYO - Nikon Corporation (Nikon) has entered into a manufacturing agreement with Velodyne Lidar, Inc. (CEO: David Hall, head office: United States, hereafter referred to as Velodyne), the leading developer and manufacturer of lidar (light detection and ranging) sensors, which are a core technology in autonomous driving.

Sendai Nikon Corporation, a Nikon subsidiary, will manufacture lidar sensors for Velodyne and plans to start mass production in the second half of this fiscal year.

Nikon invested USD $25 million in Velodyne last year and since then, aims to combine Nikon's optical and precision technologies with Velodyne's lidar sensor technology. Both companies have been developing a business alliance including collaboration in technology development and manufacturing.
This manufacturing agreement is an initial phase of this business alliance and the companies will continue to investigate further areas of a wide-ranging and multifaceted business alliance.
